Superbeing

Formed in 2000, Superbeing has carved out a large, faithful following with powerful live shows and a series of critically acclaimed, independently produced recordings. Bright Idea, the band’s latest riff-driven CD, follows their Jupiter debut CD, a five-song EP called Short Stories, and 2003’s anthemic How Lucky You Are, the CD inspired by the band’s near fatal crash while touring the prairies in winter. Superbeing’s van hit black ice and rolled on a darkened stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway outside Indian Head, Saskatchewan. After a night in the hospital, bruised and bandaged, the band got back on the road and performed the next day on Alberta television. According to Superbeing’s vocalist Jason Wilkinson, “How Lucky You Are just poured out on our way home.” Two singles from that CD, Conversation Piece and Wall of Fire, expanded Superbeing’s fan base across Canada, Wall of Fire charting number one in New Brunswick for two weeks. The band crossed Canada supporting the recording with live shows at high profile festivals like North by Northeast in Toronto, New Music West, Molson Canadian House Party and concert dates with Sum 41, Matthew Good, Gob, Todd Kerns, Robin Black and the IRS, Tea Party, Loverboy, Swollen Members, 54-40, and DOA.. The band’s documentary DVD, Independent was released in 2005 to a sold out audience, and later in 2005 the band traveled to Nashville’s Darkhorse Studios to begin work on Bright Idea. Six songs from the session were mixed at Memphis’ Ardent Studios by John Hampton (Gin Blossoms, White Stripes) before Superbeing went into Vancouver’s Greenhouse Studios to complete Bright Idea. “It’s a more straight-ahead rock record,” explained drummer Dan Swinimer. “It’s melody driven with wide ranging, crafted lyrics. We've been writing songs for a long time, and we dug deep for inspiration for these songs. We studied the elements of great songs, songs by the Beatles and other classic rock songs to get back to the basics on Bright Idea.” Roger Levins, whose Greenhouse Studios has been instrumental in hits by bands like Nickelback, Default, and Theory of a Dead Man, calls Superbeing’s Conversation Piece “the best pop-rock song to come out of Greenhouse in the last five years.” Greenhouse Studios’ Bruce Levins agrees on Superbeing’s talent, adding, “Superbeing has one of the best live shows I’ve seen on the west coast.” Touring relentlessly, the band has worked hard for years to establish a reputation for explosive, high-energy live shows. The new recording captures their continued development as hard rocking, blue-collar heroes.
