When the one person you admire the most let you know that you have a talent, it doesn’t take long until you feed into your own confidence. At 9-years-old, SAM HOOK, wanted to achieve the goal of becoming a star after his role model and big brother D’Jean insisted he had a gift. “He used to come home at all hours of the night and wake me up to see what I thought about his new song. I’d wake up and listen to it over and over.

Over time I developed a sense of harmony. I started humming the harmonies to his songs and once he heard me singing, all it took was for him to say that I sounded good. I thought I was the best and I never stopped.” Sam Hook was born in the notorious, drug-stricken borough of Brooklyn, NY during the late 80’s on May 29. However, Sam’s parents sought differently in raising their children in the notorious environment and decided to move to the quieter Elmont, Long Island. “He [my brother] saved my life. Because the way I am- if I wasn’t focused on doing damage in the music game- I’d definitely be doing the wrong damage somewhere else.” While hitting the studio daily and molding his craft as a songwriter, his determination recently landed him a songwriting deal with NEYO’S Compound Entertainment. Despite having the ability to become a singer, he still debates on whether he should choose the path to step into the limelight. With JAY-Z as an inspiration, Sam Hook lives up to the Big Homie quote, fame is the worst drug known to man. “If I’ll listen to anyone, it’ll be someone living the closes to my dream.” Sam Hook hopes to reach attention and bring out the truth in music whether he chooses to write for a male or female vocalist, He would like “to create kid-tested, mother-approved good music,” Sam jokingly states but with much sincerity. His goal is not to change music but to compliment and accent the style of every genre. His inspiration consists of his older brother, D’Jean, and Brian McKnight. “R&B is kept alive by the new greats that are forming in front of our eyes. The “Beyonces,” “Marios,” “Chris Browns,” who inspire me to perfect my craft.” Nevertheless, Sam Hook stays relentless in his business ventures. He launched his promotion team, “The Sam Hook Movement.” They are known for throwing some of the hottest parties in New York, Atlanta, and London. He is slowly making his transition in Las Vegas and has his eye on Florida. He continues to boast that “love is appreciation-squared. I don’t do it for myself. I gotta put my family on the map. I thank God for everything he’s done, good and bad times. They made me. who I am now.”
