Called "The Queen of Blue", Nora Ney (Iracema de Souza Ferreira - Mar 20, 1922 Rio de Janeiro - Oct 28, 2003 Rio de Janeiro) debuted on the radio in 1951. Her unmistakable contralto voice helped forging a peculiar style. She would be the first person to record the hallmark rock song "Rock Around the Clock" (Bill Halley) in Brazil, in 1956. But was in the Brazilian bolero type ("or samba-canção") she make success. Worked was a crooner in nightclubs and continued to work on the radio, along Dóris Monteiro and Jorge Goulart, whom she'd eventually marry. Her debut album, from 1952, featured two hits: "Menino Grande" (Antonio Maria) and "Ninguém me Ama" (Antonio Maria and Fernando Lobo), hers big hit all times. In 1964, she left the country with her husband because of the military regime, returning only 8 years later. Other hits: "Aves Daninhas" (Lupicínio Rodrigues), "Bar da Noite" (Haroldo Barbosa/ Bidu Reis), "Vai, Mas Vai Mesmo" (Ataulfo Alves) and "Preconceito" (Antônio Maria/ Fernando Lobo).
