Jimmy G

Jimmy Gelhaar spent his early years studying piano, guitar, and percussion in the small town of Carthage, IL. His father was the choir director at their church, where Jimmy preferred spending much of his time practicing piano. The expansive sanctuary and cathedral ceilings, mixed with the natural sounds of many nightly passing midwest storms, blended together into a rich tapestry; every note driving him closer toward the inevitable need to find his place in this world creating music.

In the early 70’s, his father (a former physicist for the Army) moved the family to Los Angeles to work for Xerox as a software manager. Through the years there were always oscilloscopes, televisions, and computers to fool around with and Jimmy’s curiosity towards technology helped lead him to follow in his father’s footsteps. He became a successful IT consultant, manager, and developer, simultaneously fusing his love of technology with his love of music. Through this unique combination of skills, Jimmy both meets and exceeds the needs of his clients while satisfying his own desire to create music with depth and purpose.

Over the last decade, Jimmy has composed music for a variety of movie scores and has accommodated thousands of downloads from this website, which has garnered him international attention. Currently he is working with a Swiss documentary filmmaker and is also recording a trio of instrumental cds due for release later this year. Jimmy just completed scoring the independent film Manifest Destiny which premiered on June 2010 in Los Angeles and is featured throughout the year in film and trailer festivals around the world. His original music used in the acclaimed, The Lottery, was nominated for Best Original Score at Vancouver’s 2008 North Shore Film Festival.

Jimmy is a prolific writer. He composes in a variety of styles from simple ballads to full orchestrations, and in every genre, the result is heartfelt and moving. Jimmy captures and engineers music for his clients in a Mac based workflow that includes real instruments, Kurzweil keyboards, and top end industry sound libraries - combining with his innate gifts, education, and experience to provide his clients with his very best.
