David Hill

David Hill is an American musician, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. David's music is known for its "old and new" collage of musical styles,thought provoking lyrics, samples, sequencers, live instrumentation and interesting sound effects. David was born in Fremont, California, to parents that were very involved in the art world through photography. David grew up in Minneapolis Minnesota (home of Prince), where he was influenced by that city’s diverse musical offerings—everything from hip-hop to folk to funk music—and his mother’s art scene – all having an influence on the artists perceptions. David has also lived overseas in Holland for several years, and this too has had a major influence on his perspective. Although David's work defies easy description, his eclecticism and genre experiments have sparked comparisons with a wide variety of artists and styles. David draws heavily on his personal relationship with Jesus Christ for inspiration. This sparks a free-flowing lyrical style that offers hope in this darkened world. Despite this individualism, David's music is very much a product of the times and the media age in general, with hip hop, indie/underground rock, electronic music and genre-benders like Tom Waits as notable touchstones. Some critics find David's dizzying variety in musical styles a boon to a world too eager to pigeonhole. This apparent need for some to categorize people and stuff their personalities in box's is something David has said he eschews at every turn.
