Aletta

Aletta was born with a great love for music, was only seven years old when she wrote her first song and fourteen when she started to perform her songs live. She's never dreamed of anything else other than writing and performing. Inspired by singers and songwriters such as Minnie Riperton, Tori Amos and Stevie Wonder, she loves to perform solo. However she spent some time in groups such as the Hip-Hop collective 'Noordkust-Crew' in 1998, broadcasting on a number of Dutch radio stations such as 3FM before they split up in 2000. After the split, Aletta moved from Groningen ending up in Enschede in 2003 to study music. There she formed the Soul band IMpulse Traveler, as well as writing for, and playing a main part in the Hip-Hop Opera 'Da Traviata', going on to found 'Kozmik Booty' in 2005 with producer Toni Shift - the EP ‘Listening to the Sounds of...’ was released later that year before she moved to Rotterdam to complete her music course and met singer-songwriter, Marloes. They wrote together and toured through France with Roxy's 'Shimmer Tour' in 2007. Thereafter she met Drum ‘n’ Bass / Hip Hop producer Mack a.k.a. Illyg@ll from Rotterdam, who introduced her to Random, Apakalips and Crow Magnum of the U.S. Rap group Area 51. Using the pseudonym ‘Alettarific’, they together recorded the tracks 'Save my Soul', 'Let Me Be', and 'Best Served Cold', which was featured on Mack and Random's album 'The Fantastic Adventures of Macktacular and Randiculous'. In 2008 Aletta was featured on Vintage-produced track 'Grizzly', from the album ‘Lord Fire’ by American rapper / MC Theory Hazit from the Scribbling Idiots. Aletta’s 'You Remind Me' was released on the Pop Union CD 'Heart-breakers & Ass-shakers', and the Kozmik Booty song 'Change My World' featured on the Quality-Time promo CD. She has performed solo at events such as Germany's Jazz Festival 'Live Jazz' in Bad Hersfeld, but now always plays with a band as her arrangements have expanded so much. In 2009 she was invited to open with her band for the famous Dutch singer Boris at his request live on national radio 3FM. Aletta continues to work on her solo project (the “100% Aletta” concept that started her career in 1996), featuring music renowned for the soul-touching sweet melodies and emotional and inspirational lyrics. She is due to release her first solo mini-album, 'A Jump At The Sun', in June 2010, produced by Mack aka Illyg@ll. The album contains 7 songs composed by Aletta, two of which were composed with Mack. Together they bring a new sound that ranges from Pop, Soul, Hip-Hop and R’n’B to Acoustic, Electronic and Experimental. Aletta believes this is her best work so far as it contains every element of her talent. It features her emotional piano, as well as her tougher Hip-Hop side – two facets of her, which it has previously been difficult to combine, but which now seem to have merged successfully. The title 'A Jump At The Sun' stands for a new chapter in life, both musically, spiritually and literally as Aletta is not only focusing on The Netherlands - she is ready for the world. Aletta is now based in Barreiro/Lisbon, Portugal (and Rotterdam, Netherlands). She's planning to record another album with Mack and Random this year in LA.
