Since soaring to acclaim as the only man to sing lead for both the Temptations and the Four Tops, Theo Peoples has raised the bar for soulful singing impossibly high. From jazz standards to contemporary urban soul, from Motown to Tin Pan Alley, Theo’s unparalleled vocal style has enabled him to tackle any song and make it his own. An accomplished songwriter, Theo revived the Temptations’ brand for a whole new generation with his classic composition, "This is My Promise" from the Gold-selling Temptations’ album Phoenix Rising (1998). The instant classic garnered the group a Grammy and cemented Theo’s legacy as a classic Temptations lead singer. Phoenix Rising’s other hit single, "Stay," also features a stunning lead vocal performance from Theo. Earlier in his tenure with the Temptations, he shared the leading role with Ali Woodson on For Lover’s Only, another classic album that featured innovative renditions of old standards. Theo parted ways from the Temptations shortly after the release of "Phoenix Rising" to focus on his solo career. Months later, Theo made the history-making decision to accept an invitation to join the Four Tops after the death of Lawrence Payton forced the legendary group to search for a new member for the first time in its history. In 2000, when lead singer Levi Stubbs fell ill, Theo took on the unenviable task of taking the reigns as the young captain of the Four Tops. In the eight years since assuming the lead role, Theo has navigated his way gracefully through the inevitable comparisons to Levi Stubbs by wrapping his vocal magic around the Four Tops’ classic repertoire rather than attempting rote imitation of his beloved predecessor. In fact, Theo’s showstopping performance of the Heatwave classic “Always And Forever” has become a phenomenon of its own. The year 2000 also marked the release of Theo’s first solo album, Downtime, a suite of contemporary urban grooves that offered audiences a peek at his artistic versatility. The album remains a sought after item for his fans. When he’s not touring throughout the world with the Four Tops, Theo continues to work on new music and appear as a solo performer.
